INSTRUCTION RELIEF FUND
At this time the district has said they will let us know after the November 5 meeting that the Governor has called whether or not they
will be funding the Instructional Relief Fund like they did last year using Lottery Funds. The district has actually received more funds
this year from the Lottery then last year. Keep your receipts and I should know within a week if we will be able to turn in $215 worth of
receipts for reimbursement of instructional supplies.  Remember this money does have restrictions because it is money from the Lottery.
If it is approved, Jerry Kurr will send out an email detailing the items that can be submitted for reimbursement.

NEWLY TENURED CLASS OF 2008
The Newly Tenured Teachers will join Ralph and me for dinner here at our office on November 20 from 4-5:30 PM.  We look forward to
meeting you.  Please continue to RSVP to me by November 18.  There will be prizes and gifts to all who attend besides a great meal,
dessert, and drinks.
By the way, currently 22% of ESTA is not tenured.

 SICK LEAVE BANK NEW MEMBERS
If you joined the Sick Leave Bank this school year, you will be receiving a pin from ESTA to confirm your enrollment.  If you have not
received a pin by November 15, let your site President know.   ESTA had a total of 95 people join the SLB this school year which makes
our current total 709 members.   Each of the new members will donate one additional day next school year and then each will be fully
vested.  Two days total keeps you in the bank until you leave the district.  If you want to donate additional days, you are welcome to do so.
Send me an email and I will get you a form.

ESTA SITE ELECTIONS
ESTA will hold elections at every site on December 3 to choose Site President, Vice President, Local Grievance, and Assembly
Representative for the 2009 calendar school year.  The nomination forms were placed in your box.  The deadline to submit your name
for nomination is November 19.  As always, there will be in option for a write in candidate if you miss the deadline to submit a nomination
form.

CHECK YOUR PAY STUBS
I know of at least 10 teachers that were not paid correctly on the September pay warrant.  Most had increased their FTE and the district
office had not adjusted their salary.  A few were simply paid wrong!
The most asked questions was, “Where is my stipend for Masters degree?”  All Master’s degree stipends were place in your gross per
the new payroll system.
Recently it has been detected that 4 members were overpaid last school year.  In the event this is determined, per the ESTA side letter, a
mutually agreed upon payment plan is decided.  All four members were receiving an additional stipend that they should not have received.

CTA VOTER GUIDE
CTA and NEA RECOMMENDS Barack Obama for President: Obama wants overhaul NCLB. He supports
reducing class sizes to help increase students achievement, opposes using public money for
private school vouchers, and believes all teachers should be paid a living wage and supports
affordable health care for all.
YES on Proposition 3: Prop. 3 is a statewide bond that provides $980 million to modernize and
expand the state’s children hospitals- including the five hospitals on UC campuses- to improve
the health, and welfare and safety of California’s children.
NO on Proposition 4: Prop 4 puts health and safety of California teenagers at risk. Doctors,
pediatricians, nurses and counselors, including the California Medical Association, California
Nurses Association and the California Association of School Counselors oppose Prop. 4 because
of the health risks it poses for teenage girls.
NO on Proposition 6: Prop. 6 requires massive new spending as public schools face the worst
budget crisis in history and educators organize to stave off cuts to education programs.
Prop. 6 worsens the budget crisis by spending ONE BILLION dollars each year on ineffective
programs that aren’t proven to reduce crime. Prop. 6 takes $1 billion from the state’s general
fund without providing one penny in new revenue, putting funding for schools, colleges, fire
protection and effective public safety efforts at risk.
No on Proposition 8: CTA believes that all people should be allowed equal protection under
the law.  California’s Constitution should guarantee the same freedoms and rights to
everyone – no one group should be singled out to be treated differently. Prop 8 mandates one
set of rules for gay and lesbian couples and another set of rules for everyone else. That’s
not fair. California law should treat everyone equally.
NO on Proposition 9: Prop 8 is costly, unnecessary and misleading initiative designed to
exploit California’s concerns for crime victims. It preys on our emotions in order to rewrite
the State Constitution in a way that will increase prison overcrowding and cost the state and
local countries hundreds of millions each year.

COMMITTEES LOOKING FOR ADDITIONAL MEMBERS
Like I mentioned earlier this year, ESTA has a variety of committees that members can join.  It seems that people tend to voice their
opinion when they don’t agree with a committee decision, but yet they don’t want to volunteer to be on a committee.  Here are a few of
the ESTA committees that are looking for members:
Sick Leave Bank Committee- 2 more members needed, this committee make decision about
applications received, contact Jan Bowen at bowenj@esuhsd.org
Election Committee- This group runs ESTA elections. We currently need one member per site
to run the December site election.  There will also be 1-2 elections in the spring. Contact
Rosalind Taylor at taylorros@esuhsd.org if you can be that person!
Political Action Committee – This group meets monthly and gives recommendations to the
Assembly for endorsements contact Wendy Stegeman at stegemanw@esuhsd.org
